Finished my last final yesterday and while I haven't graduated, it looks like I won't be going back. I'm the last person in my major and so my school flat out refuses to offer the last 3 classes (roughly) that I need for finish my major studies. Which is understandable for one student but they won't even allow my any of my professors to offer them as an independent study because that "has happened too many times previously in this major field" So now I have to look at other schools and hope someone will transfer most of my credits. Thinking about Rutgers since it's 10 minutes from my house but we'll see. All I know now is that I'm not doing anything next semester. Oh and in case you wanna know which school this is, it's the one that bought a 219,000 dollar table. Because fuck the students, it's all about impressing the Chinese visitors. I'm a bit pissed off right now.

I know for a fact that @Rutgers they have to offer you the classes and requirements that were in place when you selected your major. I'd reach out to the Dean of Students as that's how I got my self out of the same problem you're having.

That is a pretty nice table though...

Do they still list your major as being offered? If they offered it when you started and have continuously represented that they offer it during the time you have been enrolled, that is a big time issue for them. I definitely would not give up — you probably will need to go further up the food chain at the school.

Earth Science/Geology. I could change to general Earth Science but I'd have to take a butt ton more classes and several classes I've already done would just become electives.

GEOLOGICAL SCIENCE AND SOCIETY OPTION

This option covers the spectrum of earth science with an emphasis on the interaction between geologic processes and human beings. Students gain an excellent background across the geological specialties including field geology, structural geology, hydrology, and paleontology which qualifies them for advanced study or entry-level work.

Right on the School of Environmental & Sustainability Science page. I've had a professor emailing someone higher up about getting these classes offered as independent studies around spring registration time and he was even met with an upfront no. I'd be happy with transfering though, the school I go to now as done nothing more than ruin my views on education.

Nope, it's in some executive floor that you need a code to get into. So students wont get to check out the table unless invited in.

I seriously would at least make some noise while you are seeing what credits will transfer to another school. I certainly would never offer legal advice over the internet(!), but it sounds like you have a decent argument to get them to reimburse some $ if you have a problem with the credits transferring. The other thing to think about is your new school likely will not consider your GPA even if all the credits transfer, so you probably will not be eligible to graduate with honors if that is important to you or in your field (assuming you are within a year of graduation, which it sounds like you are).

I'd talk to an attorney about this, you entered the school with the expectation of completing a major that they offered. Now they're trying to force you to take something else so you take more classes, which means more $ to them.

I think if you at least got an attorney to send them a letter they might change their mind real quick. I'd be pissed if I was a semester away from finishing classes for a major and they just pull it from under me.

Everyone who played a part in acquiring that table should be criminally punished. That's absolutely insane for a state school.

One could only wish. The man responsible also lied and "had his resume forged" 2 years ago. And somehow managed to maintain his position of University President.

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf…

He's made jokes about students not being able to find parking and missing classes because of it but instead of doing something to fix that fairly basic and essential issue, he's gone and bought this fucking table.

Has anyone slashed his tires yet? They need to. Every time he buys new tires they need to. And dump salt water in his has tank. And maybe loosen his oil filter 'just enough'.
